8th Annual STA Trace Fest & Gathering
The 7th Annual STA Trace Festival and Gathering is set for Saturday, December 2d from 9 AM to 8 PM. A full days activities are planned in and around our Livingston Visitor and Training Center. Participants are welcome to come for a part or the whole day.
We will end the day with our traditional "Gathering" where we will honor the Class of 2017 participants in the Hiker Challenge and those who have completed the Trace on their own through a section or thruhike.
We will also honor this year's Business of the Year, "Conveniently Country" that little store on the road walk into or out of Heidelberg. Our "Partnership in Service Award" will go to the members of Flat Rock Baptist Church for their years of dedicated support to wayfarers on the Trace as it passed their church. The 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award and Verne Orndorff Inductee will be presented.
After lunch the Association's Annual Business Session will be called to order. Each fall, the STA is required by our bylaws to hold an Annual Membership Meeting. As a 501(c)3 our rules place the responsibility of electing the leadership on the members. We also feel its important that those who have invested volunteer time, financial gifts, and participated in our adventure programs to have an opportunity to give us feedback on how they feel the STA is functioning.
It is the sole role of the membership to elect the members of the Board of Director's . The board has oversight responsibility for the work of the STA under the leadership of the Executive Director. You must be present to vote and membership on the board is open to all members in good standing.
In addition to the business of the STA, we offer select workshops, forum, classes on subjects of value to those who are using the Trace.
8 years ago the STA was founded. At that first organizational meeting over 30 interested individuals and staff from the DBNF came together with the new Forest Supervisor to discuss issues related to the STNRT. From that beginning the STA was formed and today we celebrate 7 years as a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, preserving and promotion the Trace.
Trace Fest Features a Full Day of Activities
Feedback from past Annual Meetings told us that participants would like some time to get outdoors as part of the days activities. So this year, we have combined the Annual Meeting and the Annual End to End Gathering into one event called Trace Fest.
Trace Fest kicks off on Saturday, December 2d at 8:00 am and ends with the annual End to End Gathering from 5 pm to 8 pm. The day is designed so that you can come for a portion or come for it all. Of course we hope you will come for it all.
