VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ROCK CREEK BRIDGE PROJECT
OBJECTIVE: The first of two bridge builds is set for the first weekend of August, Friday the 3rd through Sunday the 5th. As many volunteers as can help are needed on Saturday to help move new materials in and old materials out from the Rock Creek Bridge on the Sheltowee Connector down to Pickett State Park. Materials will have to be hand carried, toted in using wheel barrels and carts where possible.
WORK TIMES: Participants will be shuttled to the work site on Saturday morning. The first shuttle will depart the Group Camp site at 7:30 am. Second shuttle will be at 9:00. Third shuttle will be at 10:30. Volunteers are needed on Friday afternoon to set up the STA camp and to set up the assembly area at the work site. The Group camp site will open at 1:00 pm and we will car pool / shuttle out to work site at 2:30.
REMEMBER: Your assistance is needed on Friday, Saturday primarily. If all goes as planned, on Sunday we will only need a limited number of volunteers to wrap up the work, clean up the site (LEAVE NO TRACE) and head home. The registration form has a place for you to let us know when you are coming and when your are planning to work. If you are unable to carry or move heavy loads or hike in and out there are still volunteer jobs at camp and the work site you can do.
TOOLS: The STA will provide tools as needed. We are looking for garden wagons with removable sides and wheel barrels which we hope to use transporting the old materials out to the staging area. Participants should bring their own gloves - a limited supply will be available from the STA.
The STA is committed to raising the funds to purchase the necessary materials for this project and a second project at Fall Branch. It will require the STA to raise an estimated $5,000.00 for materials for this project. To make a donation click HERE

In order to have enough supplies for camp, materials on hand at the job site, please help us by declaring your intentions to participate in this first work weekend.
Copies of these forms will be available at the camp and worksite.
The Big South Fork has reserved the Group Camp area for us to use over the weekend. This will enable those who wish, to camp out and enjoy some group meals with other volunteers. The Group Camp area has showers and campsites that you will share. The STA will have food on hand for Saturday morning breakfast, a sack lunch for Saturday, supper on Saturday night, breakfast and sack lunch on Sunday. You are permitted to bring your own food if you prefer. The Event Registration Form has a place to register for meals.
You can work on Saturday only or Sunday only or both days. The Event Registration Form has a place to designate when you will arrive and when you will leave.
Personal RV's and Campers are welcome WITH A LIMITED NUMBER IN THE GROUP SITE. You should go online NOW - NOW and make your reservation separate for a site in the Bandy Creek Campground.
Please leave your pets at home as there is no place for them at the work site where they would be out of the way and Big South Fork regulations require them to be on a lease at all times.
Volunteers should dress for the elements. Hiking boots or trail shoes are required. All workers at the bridge site involved in the actual build are required to wear a hard hat which will be provided by the STA. Please bring gloves and a small pack for your lunch and water bottle or bladder. Make sure your name is on your gear so that someone doesn't inadvertently grab the wrong gear. There will be water at the site. All trash MUST be carried out as you leave. This is a LEAVE NO TRACE work site. Ticks are a present problem so please treat your clothing and yourself for bugs and ticks.
There is a 1.5 mile hike into the work site. We hope to have enough volunteers so we can position you at the 1/4 mile mark and you will move materials only a quarter mile.
