End to Enders - Class of 2009 and Earlier
Notes on Class of 2009 and Earlier
The Sheltowee Trace was officially open in June of 1979. Even before the Trace was complete, the challenge of a long-distance hike on a trail not done drew one young man to Kentucky. Tony Daniel was a young man from Ohio when he decided to hike the Trace with only a road map. His achievement is the earliest we have on record of an End to End Hike. Tony now lives in West Virginia and is a life-member of the STA. To hike the Trace once is a great achievement. To hike it multiple times sets you apart from the main body as someone with a special connection with the Trace. In the early days, before the STA only one person, Rick McQuerry. Since those early thruhikes and section hikes of the Trace by Rick, he has spent countless weekends and hours on the Trace with scout troops he has lead, instilling in these young men the outdoor ethos.
