Map Updates

ALERT: There are two updates to the current Sheltowee Trace Maps.

CLEAR CREEK CAMPGROUND: On MAP SHEET 2 Miles 0-68 going south, at mile 51, when you come down the trail and hit Zilpo By-Way or Clear Creek Road, if you look to the left you will see the Clear Creek Campground entrance. Go to the entrance and at the kiosks go left down the camp road about 300 feet. The reroute of the Trace goes right, across from site 11, across Clear Creek, and up the hill where it joins the existing trail over to Furnace Arch. Coming north from 1274, when you come out of the woods at Forest Service Road 906 you DO NOT take the right down the road as map indicates. It is blazed to direct you to stay on the original trail up to Furnace Arch. Stay on original trail until you see signs and blazes directing you on the new reroute down the hill to Clear Creek then to campground road where you go left to kiosks then right to road and across the road is trail head back into the woods.

WILSON RIDGE ROAD: North on the Trace you follow the existing map, SOUTH MAP SHEET 4, Miles 215-294, to the intersection of Wilson Ridge and the Kentucky Trail at mile 264+. The map shows the Trace going left on Wilson Ridge. The CHANGE TO THE ROUTE takes you right on Wilson Ridge for 1/4 mile. Look left for the Trace going back into the woods and down the hill. See diagram of new reroute. At the bottom of the hill you go right back on the original Sheltowee and down to Rock Creek.

Coming South on the Trace, you cross Rock Creek at at about Mile 258.5. If you notice the yellow map line marked FS 584 that is not the way to go, even though there may be a sign that says Wilson Ridge Rd.. Ignore it and continue straight. If you look at the map, about where you see the word “Fork”, is near where the Trace goes left and up the hillside to Wilson Ridge. When you hit the road, you go right and in 1/4 mile you will see the brown signs for Kentucky Trail where the Sheltowee returns to the woods.
