Volunteer of the Year

Each year the STA recognizes the efforts of our volunteers at the Annual Gathering. Our volunteers are crucial to maintaining trail access for all individuals. Each year we award the Volunteer of the Year Award to that individual or group that has given above and beyond to the maintaining of the Trace or in support of the work of the STA. Beginning in 2021 we awarded two volunteers, one in support of the trails maintenance work and a second in support of the administrative and programming efforts of the STA.

The trails volunteer of the year for 2023 is Barry Tonning. In recognition of his exceptional volunteer efforts as a leader of the Cave Run Lake Chapter trail crew . His determination to gain advance skills from the DBNF have made him a invaluable asset to the crew. The Sheltowee Trace Association is indebted to Barry and we are extremely grateful for his volunteer service in 2023.

The programming volunteer of the year for 2023 is Roscoe Peacock. In recognition of his exceptional volunteer efforts as the design editor of the 2024 STNRT Trail Guide. Working with his team over the course of a year, Roscoe lead the effort to create a premier trail guide in support of the Trace. The Sheltowee Trace Association is indebted to Roscoe and we are extremely grateful for his volunteer service in 2023.
